FICUS AUDREY

The Ficus Audrey (Ficus benghalensis) is the national tree of India. In its natural habitat its canopy can cover a lot of ground and provide great shade in its warm climate. This plant filters airborne toxins and is part of our clean air plant collection.

Similar to most Ficus trees, the Ficus Audrey prefers a spot where it will receive high levels of bright, indirect light. This plant will need to be acclimated to long periods of direct sun and it will not tolerate low light conditions.

In their natural tropical habitat, Bengal Figs can grow to over 30m tall with a spread of 200m and are some of the largest canopy trees in the world. However, don’t panic, you can easily manage their size as a container grown houseplant to add height and texture to a room. Other common names include Strangler Fig and Banyan Tree.

CARE TIPS:

• Ficus benghalensis prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some light shade. Direct sunlight may burn the leaves.
• Allow the soil to almost dry out before watering, then saturate. Ensure good drainage as the plant won’t like sitting in water.
• Insufficient light or incorrect watering can trigger leaf drop. Adjust as necessary and your plant should quickly recover. Trim to maintain shape, but be aware that sticky latex will ooze from the ends of the cut stems. This can be an irritant, therefore wash your hands if any comes into contact with your skin. Prefers to be slightly pot-bound.
